Many a times after completing a windows update you get this notification - "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting.
This copy of windows did not pass Windows validation."

How to determine whether your copy of Windows XP is activated or not
Here's how to determine whether your copy of Windows XP is activated or not.
1. Go to Start->Run and
2. Enter the following
oobe/msoobe /a
A windows should open up showing your activation status.
If your copy of Windows XP is activated you should see something like this:
